Björg Thorsteinsdóttir (1940–2019)  Over the course of her career, she created a body of work marked by vivid colors, shifting perspectives, and a playful yet deeply attentive gaze on her surroundings. Her paintings often merge personal memory with broader cultural references, resulting in compositions that feel both familiar and enigmatic. With more than 400 works in the collection of Iceland’s state museums, Thorsteinsdóttir’s practice stands as a vital contribution to the country’s art history, offering insight into how Icelandic modernism unfolded in dialogue with international currents while retaining a distinctly personal voice.
