The exhibition Par Avion is the exciting culmination of a cross-border collaborative project initiated in July 2025 between the Critical Edge Collective from London, the Best Before Collective from Stockholm, and eight artists from Berlin. Inspired by the original Mail Art movement, which emphasized collaboration and community, all 24 artists developed their research ideas and sent them to a partner in another city. In response to the impulses and questions they received, each recipient created a new artwork.
The exhibition now offers these artists the opportunity to come together and present their ideas in a new series of works, alongside the research that inspired them. Par Avion includes sculptures, prints, paintings, drawings, textiles, audiovisual media, and performances—as well as the envelopes each artist initially sent to another country at the beginning of the process.
This ambitious project not only presents new works across a wide range of disciplines, but also pays tribute to the creative power of collaboration and partnership. At the heart of the exhibition is the exchange between people, materials, stories, and practices.
The Par Avion project was initiated by the Critical Edge Collective in collaboration with the Best Before Collective to foster the exchange of research among artists. Its aim is to generate enthusiasm and excitement for the research processes of different practitioners, while building an intercultural community between London, Stockholm, and Berlin. Critical Edge and Best Before first connected in 2024 during a group exhibition in London, where a friendship developed along with the desire to collaborate on a broader, Europe-wide scale.
